MCT oil: Medium Chain Tryglycerides are shorter than most fats we eat. They are absorbed much more quickly and don’t get stored in fat cells – they need to be processed immediately. MCTs are promptly oxidized in muscle cells or used by the liver to make ketones. Nutritional sources are butter (10-15% of the fat), cream, coconut oil (75% of the fat). Ingestion of MCT oil will result in significant ketosis even if consumed with carbs, although this MCT-induced ketone production may not be associated with the full spectrum of metabolic benefits associated with carbohydrate-restricted keto adaption. Thus, we do not encourage use of MCT oil (Jeff S. Volek and Stephen D. Phinney).

I totally agree with those two pioneer scientists that wrote “The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance”. Both MCT and exogenous ketones have to be seen as supplementation – nothing to do with the 3 or 4 steps of ketogenic adaptation with all the natural benefits of the process.

CBD oil: We have our own endogenous system producing the cannabinoids- ECS, endocannabinoid system. It is boosted by stress-reducing activities, hydration, doing breathing exercises etc. To avoid the ECS system becomes strained we need to avoid overtraining and inflammation. Hangovers are actually thought to work the wrong way on the endocannabinoid system too. Soo… stay hydrated 😉 In my own practice i saw that both CBD and THC increase heart rate AND increase hunger – with higher leptin and ghrelin levels, which is not good. Another thing is that some people stop giving 100% priority to the exercise and lifestyle change when they engage in supplementation. CBD relaxing effects make you much less effective in your exercise, in some situations making it impossible to train. This is wrong focus. So regulate and normalise your metabolism – through exercise and lifestyle change – it will give you better long term results.
